The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), rooted in earlier philosophical reflections on knowledge and cognition, has significantly transformed contemporary research practices. Since its expansion in the second half of the twentieth century and the emergence of learning algorithms in the 1980s, AI has become an increasingly influential tool in scientific research. In language sciences, interdisciplinary approaches have created a communicative continuum in which AI functions both as a methodological instrument and a conceptual framework, supporting data processing, synthesis, and analysis across linguistic, translation, and discourse studies.

At the same time, its growing presence raises important questions regarding opportunities, limitations, and risks. While AI enhances efficiency and supports analytical processes, it also acts as a powerful mediator of information, sometimes prone to distortion. Current debates therefore emphasise the balance between human and artificial intelligence. Although AI contributes to verification, synthesis, and generation, human intelligence remains essential for critical evaluation and post-verification, particularly in addressing AI hallucinations and ensuring reliability. Creativity, cultural sensitivity, and interpretative nuance continue to be distinctly human competences, especially in literary translation and intercultural communication.

In this context, Issue 41 of ANADISS comprises a Thematic Dossier devoted to the interaction between AI and the language sciences, foregrounding both the opportunities afforded by emerging technologies and the theoretical, ethical, and methodological challenges they raise. The contributions included in this volume explore a wide range of topics related to literary and specialised translation, language teaching, AI-mediated communication, and the transformation of contemporary creative and discursive practices. In a context shaped by the rapid expansion of generative technologies, the authors propose interdisciplinary approaches that examine the evolving relationship between Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence, while emphasising the role of creativity, critical interpretation, and cultural mediation as fundamentally human competences.

Les textes réunis dans ce la quatrième partie de ce volume sont le fruit d'un travail éditorial collectif issus du colloque franco-roumain en sciences de l'information et de la communication (CBFR), qui a célébré sa 27ème édition à l'Université Stefan cel Mare de Suceava (22-24 mai 2025) autour de la question des Récits médiatiques en régime de post-vérité (voir https://www.sfsic.org/evenement/les-recits-mediatiques-en-regime-de-post-verite-2/). Lancé en 1993 par le professeur Ioan Dragan dans le double objectif de développer la coopération franco-roumaine en sciences de la communication mais aussi de mieux faire connaître la Roumanie (sa recherche académique, ses traditions intellectuelles, patrimoniales et son ancrage dans les cultures populaires) aux collègues français, ce colloque a su se frayer un chemin singulier dans le paysage de la recherche francophone en sciences de l'information et de la communication (SIC).

Dans la première décennie d'existence de cette manifestation récurrente, le modèle privilégié par les organisateurs s'apparentait davantage à celui de journées d'études, sur invitations effectuées à partir des affinités électives et du dense réseau de relations académiques du professeur Dragan, auquel le colloque de Suceava en 2025 a rendu un vibrant hommage à l'occasion de sa disparition (voir aussi le numéro spécial de la Revue roumaine de sociologie, 2025). A parti de sa Xème édition en 2003, qui accueillit près de 300 participants issus d'une trentaine de pays francophones, le CBFR adopta un changement de cap, en suivant le modèle des colloques internationaux mainstream : appel à communications en amont, constitution d'un comité scientifique international, procédures rigoureuses de sélection en " double aveugle "...Cette institutionnalisation progressive du colloque lui permit d'ailleurs une labellisation systématique par la Société Française des Sciences de l'Information et de la communication (SFSIC), devenue partenaire récurrente ici remerciée.

Cette reconnaissance est aussi liée à l'élargissement des thématiques traitées chaque année lors du colloque : au départ centré sur les médias, la communication politique et leurs publics, le CBFR a proposé à ses participants d'aborder la quasi-totalité des sous-champs des sciences de l'information et de la communication : médiation culturelle et patrimoniale, médiation des savoirs, communication internationale et interculturelle, industries culturelles et créatives, communication organisationnelle, usages des dispositifs numériques...

Information technologies are increasingly present across various fields of activity, and translation is no exception. Translators rely on ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) in their search for resources to support their comprehension of the subject matter to be translated, to identify and extract terminology from specialised domains, as well as to compile the applied corpora according to the specific issues under investigation. When it comes to literary translation, the role of technology, particularly that of Artificial Intelligence (AI), is less evident. We note that there are certain reservations and criticisms regarding the involvement of AI, in one form or another, in the translation of literary texts, which requires a creative, emotional, and evaluative approach, taking into account the current pragmatic framework for each act of intercultural communication. Translation presents itself as a game played according to a set of rules, while the players in this game have varying responsibilities depending on the circumstances. The situation becomes more complex if the source text contains information regarded as “untranslatable”, a topic long debated in translation theory and practice. How can such problems be solved: by human translator’s intervention only, or by means of which translation strategies and techniques? Is AI “capable” of dealing with these elements autonomously or does it generally omit them altogether (as human translators do the same in certain situations)? What could literary translation gain from the human-machine collaboration? In the present article, we aim to analyse the current situation in the field and to provide several answers to the aforementioned questions.

This article examines the implications of artificial intelligence for contemporary literary translation, focusing particularly on the translation of poetry as a critical testing ground for technological adequacy. The rapid development of neural machine translation and large language models has profoundly reshaped translational practice and generated renewed debate regarding the evolving role of the human translator. While AI systems demonstrate high levels of lexical accuracy, syntactic fluency, and semantic alignment, their performance varies according to textual typology. Literary translation―and especially poetry―requires the reconstruction of rhythmic architecture, sound patterning, metaphorical density, and symbolic layering, elements that exceed purely denotative equivalence. The study situates AI-driven translation technologies within the broader technological momentum that characterizes the current translational era and explores the reconfiguration of translational agency in this hybrid human–machine environment. To illustrate these theoretical considerations, the article presents a comparative analysis of Charles Baudelaire’s poem “Une Charogne”, examining the French original alongside a human Romanian translation and an AI-generated version. The comparison evaluates semantic fidelity, prosodic reconstruction, rhetorical intensity, and aesthetic equivalence. The findings indicate that although AI achieves substantial lexical-semantic correspondence and structural coherence, it fails to reconstruct poetic form, rhythmic balance, and symbolic resonance. By contrast, the human translator preserves aesthetic cohesion and tonal tension through interpretative mediation and stylistic modulation. The article concludes that artificial intelligence may function effectively as a semantic scaffold or drafting instrument, particularly in informational contexts, but poetic translation remains fundamentally dependent on human creative agency. Rather than eliminating the translator, artificial intelligence redefines professional competence as the integration of technological expertise with aesthetic and interpretative judgment.

The early teaching of foreign languages has gained increasing importance in contemporary educational contexts, particularly in light of globalization and technological development. This article explores the role of songs as a pedagogical tool in early foreign language instruction, within the broader context of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The study draws on classroom observations conducted in a preschool institution in the Republic of Moldova, where foreign language learning is implemented as an optional activity. The pedagogical approach focuses on five-year-old children and is based on interactive, playful and multisensory learning strategies. Vocabulary is introduced through visual aids and concrete objects, and reinforced through thematic songs, which support memorization through rhythm and repetition. Songs are combined with movement-based activities involving gestures and physical responses associated with the meaning of words. Learning activities are also anchored in the learners’ immediate environment, supporting a contextualized use of language. Digital resources, such as video materials, are used for revision and consolidation, while audio resources provide exposure to authentic pronunciation models. The article also considers the potential role of artificial intelligence in language education. AI-based tools may offer new possibilities for creating personalized educational content, including songs adapted to learners’ needs. The analysis suggests that combining songs, movement, object manipulation and digital tools can positively influence early language learning. Certain limitations are also observed, including the fluctuating attention span of young learners and the need for a balanced use of digital resources. Overall, the study highlights the potential of multisensory approaches and digital technologies to support engaging and effective early foreign language learning.

This article investigates the transformations currently reshaping contemporary Italian narrative in the context of generative artificial intelligence and digital humanism. Through a critical synthesis of interdisciplinary scholarship published between 2017 and 2025, the study analyses three interconnected dimensions: the redefinition of authorship in AI-assisted literary production; the emergence of hybrid narrative forms at the boundary between human creativity and computational generation; and the aesthetic, ethical, and institutional implications of these developments for the Italian literary system. Drawing on Floridi’s concept of distant writing and on the foundational tradition of Italian literary experimentation — from Eco’s opera aperta to Balestrini’s algorithmic poetry — the article argues that contemporary Italian narrative occupies a structurally ambivalent position: it inherits a rich legacy of theoretical and formal innovation that anticipates many of the dilemmas now central to AI debates, while simultaneously facing the homogenising pressures of a global digital ecosystem that systematically disadvantages culturally specific literary traditions. Attention is given to the risks of stylistic standardization arising from large language models trained predominantly on anglophone data, and to the erosion of the individual authorial voice as a marker of cultural identity and intellectual legitimacy. The article concludes by identifying three priority research directions for digital Italian studies: empirical investigation of AI-assisted writing practices among Italian authors; analysis of algorithmic recommendation systems and their impact on canon formation; and the development of theoretical frameworks adequate to the specificities of the Italian literary field within the broader context of global digital transformation.

This article examines the formative role of translators of religious texts, spiritual works and Orthodox Christian theology, who contribute to the instruction and education of their readers, not only in the target language but also in the source language. To form and educate means to act and influence, to build knowledge, to shape it, to contribute actively to its enrichment, and to make it encyclopedic within the field of translation. The article also shows that, through their translation choices and strategies, these translators help to enrich their readers’ knowledge of Christianity, even encouraging them to seek out equivalent terms in the source language and to make them their own. At the same time, through their translation choices―particularly regarding the proper names of saints―they establish themselves as normative references for the use of the hagiographical equivalents they propose. We will thus demonstrate that translation also constitutes a formative and instructive process, providing cultural and encyclopedic education for readers of the translated texts, as well as serving as a mediation and mediation of cultures, an invitation to discover the world of the source text in the target language that receives it. This process also involves a normative dimension, which is highly significant in terms of vocabulary, style and terminology, even today, in the age of AI. Consequently, the (bio)translator’s normative role goes hand in hand with their role as a trainer and educator. We will demonstrate, with examples, that in the field of Orthodox Christian theology and spirituality, AI – whose main strengths are ease, speed and practicality―is not particularly adept at producing accurate and rigorous translations.

This article explores the linguistic and cultural challenges involved in the translation of gastronomic idiomatic expressions from French into Romanian in the context of artificial intelligence–assisted translation. Gastronomic idioms constitute a particularly complex category of phraseological units, as they are characterized by semantic non-compositionality, syntactic fixity, and strong cultural anchoring. Far from referring solely to food or culinary practices, these expressions convey symbolic meanings, collective representations, and pragmatic values specific to a given linguistic community. The study adopts a contrastive and traductological perspective, combining theoretical insights from phraseology and cultural translation studies with an empirical analysis of translations generated by several widely used AI-based systems (such as Google Translate, DeepL, and Microsoft 365 Copilot). Particular attention is paid to cases where no direct idiomatic equivalent exists in Romanian, which often leads to literal translations, semantic opacity, or the neutralization of metaphorical imagery. Conversely, idioms with well-established functional equivalents in Romanian are more successfully rendered, especially when they are frequent and well represented in training corpora. The analysis highlights the limits of current AI systems in dealing with culturally marked figurative language, as these technologies primarily rely on statistical correlations rather than contextual and experiential understanding. While neural machine translation has significantly improved fluency and grammatical accuracy, it still struggles to ensure pragmatic equivalence and cultural adequacy in the case of idiomatic expressions. The article argues that AI should be viewed as a complementary tool rather than an autonomous solution in idiomatic translation. The human translator remains essential as a cultural mediator, responsible for identifying idioms, evaluating machine-generated outputs, and selecting appropriate strategies such as idiomatic equivalence, reformulation, or explicitation. Ultimately, the translation of gastronomic idioms illustrates the enduring centrality of human expertise in the transfer of meaning across languages and cultures.

Digital technology plays an increasingly essential role in contemporary philological research, particularly in the translation and analysis of Orthodox hymnographic texts. In recent years, the rapid development of digital tools, including translation software, electronic corpora, corpus management platforms, and various forms of artificial intelligence, has significantly transformed the way scholars approach textual material belonging to the liturgical and theological domain. These innovations have not only expanded access to primary sources but have also reconfigured research methodologies in the humanities, enabling more efficient and systematic investigations of large and complex datasets. However, despite these technological advances, the translation of hymnographic text remains a highly complex and demanding task due to its dense theological content, layered symbolism, poetic structure, and rich discursive organization. Digital instruments can greatly facilitate the work of researchers by accelerating access to sources, offering terminological suggestions, supporting concordance analysis, and improving the management of extensive textual corpora. Nevertheless, they cannot fully replace human intellectual activity, particularly critical reading, contextual interpretation, and hermeneutic judgment, which are indispensable for grasping the semantic, symbolic, and spiritual dimensions of these texts. The specificity of Orthodox hymnography, characterized by the close interrelation between doctrine, poetry, and liturgical function, requires a level of sensitivity and cultural awareness that remains beyond the capabilities of automated systems. This study aims to examine how digital technology constitutes a valuable tool for the translation of Orthodox liturgical texts within both Romanian and French cultural and linguistic contexts, while also emphasizing its practical contributions to textual preservation and dissemination. At the same time, it seeks to highlight the methodological and epistemological limits of machine-assisted translation when confronted with the depth, complexity, and theological density of Orthodox hymnographic discourse.

The study investigates how digital memes function as tools for political and social commentary in a highly polarized society. Social media has become an ideological battleground where competing narratives about reality vie for popularity, providing fertile ground for the spread of conspiracy theories. Our research explores conspiracy theories in Romania, interpreting them as mythological narratives that serve social functions and find in memes an ideal vehicle for dissemination. This paper analyzes digital memes in the Romanian context not merely as entertainment, but as tools for political engagement and digital guerrilla warfare through which anonymous users challenge official discourse and negotiate social values. We adapt Manuel Castells’ concept of „resistance identity” to explain how groups that feel devalued or marginalized by the processes of globalization construct their own, defensive sense of identity, anchored in local identity. Within this framework, conspiracy theories are interpreted as the fundamental discursive material of this identity of resistance, providing the narratives necessary to draw a clear boundary between „us” (the local community) and „them” (the global network, the abstract enemy such as the EU or hidden elites). Applying the methodology of structural anthropology, the paper analyzes specific cases from the Romanian digital space, focusing on memes associated with current conspiracy theories. In a context where the European Union represents the most complete embodiment of the „networked state” – a system based on shared sovereignty – progressive values, immigration, and climate skepticism are recurring themes used in the Romanian memetic sphere to stir up anti-European sentiment. Our research examines „binary oppositions” to demonstrate how memes symbolically link food classifications to deep identity boundaries between „us” and „them.”

This study investigates third-year undergraduates’ perceptions of the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in the context of diploma paper writing. Drawing on survey data collected from 64 students from the Department of Translation, Interpretation and Applied Linguistics at Moldova State University in March 2026, the study examines patterns of AI use, perceived benefits and ethical risks, and the academic writing challenges that shape students’ engagement with these tools. The findings reveal near-universal AI adoption, with 98.4% of respondents reporting use of GenAI during their studies. ChatGPT dominates as the most widely used tool, followed by DeepL, which reflects the discipline-specific terminological needs of the students. While they acknowledge practical benefits, particularly time efficiency and writing support, respondents simultaneously express significant ethical concerns. A large majority recognise the risks of cognitive dependence, echoing Benjamin Moorhouse et al.’s (2025) finding that students describe GenAI reliance as leading to cognitive inertia and a reduced desire to think independently. Concerns about plagiarism and content fabrication emerge as further concerns, with students reporting concrete experiences of AI hallucination. The data on academic writing challenges reveal that students struggle most with skills such as paraphrasing, argumentation, and coherence development, and turn to GenAI as a compensatory strategy in these areas. The study concludes that, as Miriam Sullivan et al. (2023) argue, the pedagogical potential of these tools can only be realised alongside explicit institutional guidelines, and that Translation and Interpreting programmes urgently need AI literacy frameworks supporting informed, critical engagement with GenAI.

This study provides a qualitative analysis of dysphemisms, which represent harsh or offensive expressions used to reflect the way the speaker perceives the ideational reality, as well as the relationship between speaker and listener. Thus the ideational metafunction and interpersonal metafunction intertwine within these linguistic phenomena. Being a complex linguistic phenomenon, it becomes even more intricate when it comes to its translation. The translation solution should cover cultural and social expectations in expressing a certain reality by means of dysphemisms, as what is considered normal or mildly offensive in one language and culture could be inappropriate, weird or highly offensive in another language. The human translator is bound to sense the cultural, social and personal nuances in order to find a proper transfer strategy which would have the same impact on the target audience as it has of the source audience. This is particularly important in regard to the translations of movies and series, as it shapes the way the cinematographic work is perceived worldwide, its authenticity and intended emotional impact. The article highlights the main categories and functions of dysphemisms as well as the techniques used in professional human translation versus AI translation tools, providing comments on the naturalness and illocutionary force of the translated utterances. The examples which were analysed were selected from the award-winning British series Adolescence. The study proves that professional human translation, in most cases, is more nuanced and versatile in comparison with AI translation, which tends to be repetitive, or even flawed when it fails to detect the intended meaning and illocutionary force of the source dysphemism in context.

This article written as part of the project 'The Digitization of the Initial Training Process for Teaching Staff to Ensure an Efficient Educational Approach, in Line with the Demands of the Labor Market' analyzes digital and print reading from three complementary perspectives: epistemological, phenomenological, and ethical. From an epistemological standpoint, digital environments provide rapid access to vast amounts of information, but they also contribute to cognitive overload making it necessary for readers to apply filtering and evaluation strategies. From a phenomenological perspective, digital reading is characterized by fragmented attention and nonlinear navigation, whereas print reading supports a more embodied and tactile experience that enhances reflection, memory retention, and deep understanding. Ethically, digital reading shifts responsibility to the individual, as the circulation of information within networked environments shapes collective behaviors and identities in the contemporary Infosphere. Additionally, the article presents findings from an experimental study involving university students that compared comprehension and recall in digital and print reading conditions. The results suggest that print-based reading is associated with improved concentration, stronger memory performance, and deeper analytical processing, while digital reading tends to promote faster interaction, multitasking, and more superficial engagement with texts.

In the context of global information flows, generic machine translations often result in “semantic flattening” and increased informational entropy. This issue is critical in media translation, where complex socio-legal terms lose their relevance through literal transcoding. The present research proposes and evaluates the Semiotic Governance Protocol v3.0.14, a hybrid algorithmic intercultural mediation model designed to transform the raw textual output of Artificial Intelligence into a high-prestige informational product (see APPENDIX A). The central objective is to demonstrate how hybrid algorithmic mediation ensures the “survival of meaning.” The study employs a comparative methodology. Datasets of news articles (Case study: justice reform/vetting) were analyzed and translated using two methods: (1) generic prompting (transcoding) and (2) the application of Protocol v3.0.14 based on the GASP Audit reasoning (Governance, Accuracy, Semiotics, Pragmatics). Empirical analysis reveals that the application of the protocol eliminates the “contextual blindness” of algorithms. The results demonstrate a consistent improvement in performance indicators: the restoration of discursive authority (e.g., transitioning to Active Voice), terminological precision through functional anchoring, and strategic framing of headlines to maximize relevance according to Relevance Theory (Wilson & Sperber). The research validates the model of critical symbiosis, demonstrating that the future of media translation lies not in total automation, but in hybrid algorithmic mediation. The proposed protocol provides newsrooms with a rigorous tool to maintain “digital truth” and discursive authority in the face of risks such as disinformation and algorithmic simplification.

Traditionally, oral language performance has often been explained in terms of learners’ linguistic competence and the areas of weakness associated with it. However, such an interpretation appears inadequate when applied to learners who possess satisfactory language proficiency, yet remain reluctant to engage in oral communication. From this perspective, examining learners’ attitudes toward their own linguistic competence may provide a more relevant explanation for their engagement or disengagement in oral language practices, particularly in situations where conventional didactic approaches fail to account for observed difficulties. Drawing on psychological foundations, this study argues that weaknesses in oral production can be understood beyond the sole framework of linguistic competence, a dimension that remains largely underexplored in traditional approaches to oral language teaching and learning. Situated within the field of applied linguistics, this research is based on a survey conducted among Algerian university students majoring in French and enrolled in undergraduate and master’s programs. The Participants were selected on the basis of their high academic achievement and demonstrated linguistic competence. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analysed using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The analysis focused on perceptions of oral competence, self-confidence, attitudes toward error and social comparison. The findings indicate that the learners’ difficulties in oral production are not attributed primarily to deficiencies in linguistic competence. Rather, they are closely associated with the underestimation of one’s actual capabilities, lack of self-confidence, communication anxiety, fear of making mistakes and sensitivity to others’ judgments. These psychological factors significantly inhibit learners’ willingness to participate in oral interactions, even when the necessary linguistic resources are available. The study highlights the importance of integrating psychological dimensions into the understanding and development of oral language competence.

This article examines the strategies and aspects of rhetorical persuasion within economic discourse. To achieve this, we analyze the speeches delivered by Emmanuel Macron during his tenure as the French Minister of the Economy. The analysis focuses primarily on the rhetorical devices and persuasive strategies deployed by the speaker. Our approach draws its theoretical foundations from Aristotle’s conceptual legacy, as well as current developments in discourse analysis, combining them to shed light on the complexity of the selected statements. We aim to demonstrate how ancient conceptualizations validate and enrich modern critical models. The research objective is to highlight the rhetorical specificities of two speeches delivered under different circumstances. The analytical methodology relies on a comprehensive discourse approach. This framework goes beyond mere textual description to capture the discursive relationship between message production and reception. It aims to deconstruct the mechanisms of textual construction and the process of discursive interactions. This methodological stance allows us to highlight the structures that economic discourse imposes to foster adherence.Our focus on persuasive strategies proves crucial, as our approach identifies the hallmarks of economic discourse and the drivers of its effectiveness. Drawing upon the three pillars of rhetorical persuasion – ethos, pathos, and logos – is not merely a tool for mass manipulation. Rather, it serves to understand the production mechanisms of discursive influence and to clarify the dynamics of power and psychological compliance within the target audience. This Aristotelian triad decodes how rhetorical discourse is structured as a theatrical performance of the self. By articulating economic logos with emotional resonance, the speaker shapes a new legitimacy capable of redefining the discursive framework. Thus, our study demonstrates that contemporary eloquence reinvents classical codes to naturalize complex strategic choices.

This study aims to analyze speakers’ relationship with the languages present in their environment, considering the influence of a language’s status on communication situations. Our survey, conducted both in vivo and in vitro, will focus on the different contexts of language use accessible to the respondents. A second objective is to examine the informants’ writing skills, with a particular interest in the differentiated use of languages and forms specific to electronic language. Our goal is to grasp the influence of the multilingual situation at the University of Béjaia on students’ written productions, leading them to resort to code-switching. The analysis of the collected messages will allow us to identify the different writing processes mobilized by these students in their writing practices. Technical and economic constraints, as well as the playful aspect, play an important role in students’ writing choices, through linguistic forms and communication strategies that vary from one writer to another. Alongside the usual methods of lexicon formation, students employ other techniques and processes such as logograms, syllabograms, consonant skeletons, etc., which appear strange compared to lexicon formation processes like truncation, initialism, borrowing, etc., which seem more familiar. What is fascinating about this language is its very strong lexical, and particularly morphological, codification. It is a form of speech – in the Saussurean sense, i.e., the individual arrangement of a language’s signs – with very limited combinatorial possibilities: the use of recomposed morphemes, reduced to phonemes, typographical remnants, and spelling-defying abbreviations.

This paper explores the evolution of Romanian constitutional texts from a discourse and communication analysis perspective, focusing on all successive constitutions as reflections of changing political regimes and constructions of national identity. The study conceptualizes the constitution not only as a legal document, but also as a communicative act that mirrors the values, ideologies and power structures of a given historical context. Particular attention is paid to the communist period, in which constitutional language became a vehicle for ideological dissemination. The analysis highlights the prevalence of “wooden language”, characterized by linguistic formulas, ideological clichés and the cultivation of linguistic ambiguity, serving to legitimize the authority of the political regime and to construct a controlled representation of social reality. By contrast, the post-1989 constitutional discourse reflects a shift towards democratic communication, marked by increased transparency, pluralism and alignment with European legal and political standards. Through a comparative approach, the paper demonstrates how constitutional language evolves from an instrument of ideological control to a framework of democratic expression, while continuously contributing to the symbolic construction of Romanian national identity. Human action itself, as evoked in the Constitution, possesses a strong symbolic dimension, with reference to loyalty to the Constitution and the State (oaths of allegiance), the sacralization of the political sphere through symbols (flag, anthem, historical battles), as well as the mythical construction of the political community (nation, working people, Romanian people). The Constitution is thus not only a legal norm, but also a text loaded with symbols and values that shape the collective imaginary of the Romanian people.

This article examines sarcasm as a discursive strategy in Moroccan political discourse in the post-Arab Spring context, characterized by political conflict, ideological polarization, and the growing influence of social media as spaces for the circulation of public speech. Based on a qualitative corpus composed of excerpts drawn from more than forty videos featuring Moroccan political figures, including Abdelilah Benkirane, Hamid Chabat, Driss Lachgar, and Abdellatif Ouahbi, the study adopts a discourse-analytic and pragmatic approach to investigate the functions, mechanisms, and effects of sarcasm in political interactions. The analysis demonstrates that sarcasm goes beyond a mere stylistic device and operates as a powerful instrument of symbolic disqualification and management of power relations. It contributes to the construction of negative ethos through rhetorical mechanisms such as hyperbole, irony, caricature, implicature, and the reactivation of the opponent’s biographical past. In this sense, sarcasm shifts political conflict from programmatic and ideological debates toward interpersonal confrontation focused on individuals, their behavior, and their moral image rather than on public policies and substantive political issues. The study also highlights the interactional and populist dimensions of sarcastic discourse. By using familiar language, popular references, and accessible forms of ridicule, political actors seek to strengthen audience connivance and foster emotional adhesion. However, this dynamic contributes to the impoverishment of democratic debate, the polarization of political exchanges, and the transformation of politics into a form of discursive spectacle. Sarcasm therefore appears as an ambivalent discursive practice, oscillating between legitimate political criticism and the weakening of democratic deliberation in contemporary Moroccan political communication contexts today.

This study examines the development of pragmatic competence in Algerian French-speaking children aged three to five years through the acquisition of linguistic politeness rules. It offers two main theoretical contributions. First, it applies Kerbrat-Orecchioni’s extended interactional model, jointly integrating Face Threatening Acts (FTAs) and Face Flattering Acts (FFAs). This approach provides a more comprehensive account of politeness as a relational and co-constructed practice than the classical Brown and Levinson model, which focuses exclusively on threat mitigation. Second, the study proposes an original developmental distinction between reproductive politeness – characterized by the imitation of socialized forms, limited to specific act types and centered on the child’s own intentions – and adaptive politeness – marked by the diversification of mitigation strategies, their extension to multiple act types, and a growing awareness of the interlocutor’s face. The analysis is based on a longitudinal corpus of sixteen natural interactions involving the same six preschool children (three girls and three boys) recorded in a private school in Tizi- Ouzou, Algeria, at ages three and five. The interactions were transcribed according to the ICOR conventions and analyzed using combined qualitative and quantitative methods (inter-rater agreement: 91%, Cohen’s kappa = 0.86). Results show that at age three, unmitigated FTAs strongly predominate (78.55%, N = 303), mitigation is rare (9.24%) and restricted mainly to orders, while FFAs remain marginal (12.21%) and largely indirect. At age five, unmitigated FTAs decrease significantly (59.15%, N = 306), mitigated FTAs double (19.60%), and FFAs increase to 21.25%, becoming more explicit and autonomous. Children also diversify their mitigation strategies (modalizers, apologies, justifications) and extend them to new threatening acts (refusals, interruptions, prohibitions). These findings, interpreted in light of theory of mind development (Premack & Woodruff, 1978; Veneziano, 2015), provide original empirical data on pragmatic acquisition in a plurilingual Algerian context and open promising perspectives for future comparative research.

In light of the exponential increase of homonymous abbreviations, it seems essential to undertake a study of the formal structuring of these lexical units that result from the shortening of a syntagma often composed of several lexical words on the path to lexicalization. Siglaization is the operation that allows for the creation of a word that appears simple but has a complex structure due to its formation rules, by reducing a syntagma already recognized as a complex functional unit. The abbreviation is obtained by taking each of the initial letters of the lexemes from the source syntagma. The abbreviation is formed in the same way as an acronym, with the difference that the acronym is composed more of syllables than of letters. Consequently, while the abbreviation can be pronounced either by spelling it out letter by letter or as an ordinary word, the acronym is necessarily articulated as a word. The distribution of consonants and vowels within the framework of acronymy is the basis for this pronunciation. This contribution aims primarily to demonstrate the existence and relevance of this formal relationship, on one hand, between abbreviations and words in the language, which will be referred to as “motivated” homonymy, and on the other hand, between abbreviations of the same form, due to the rules of formation of abbreviations imposed by the lexical system of a language, which will be termed natural or accidental homonymy. The structuring of abbreviations or acronyms will occur according to the specific domains of abbreviation usage and the languages from which these lexical units originate, while taking into account their contexts of use to determine the gender and specific meanings.

This paper analyses the dynamics of place names in the context of the digitization of orientation practices, focusing on the relationship between linguistic usage, standardization processes, and the constraints imposed by digital platforms. Within an interdisciplinary theoretical framework, the research approaches toponymy as a space of intersection between norm and variation, highlighting the role of endonyms and exonyms, of official and vernacular forms, as well as of diatopic and diastratic variation. It also discusses mechanisms of linguistic standardization and their implications in relation to language as a social practice, anchored in power relations and spatial representation. Methodologically, the study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative analysis of interviews with quantitative analysis of a corpus of toponyms extracted from digital applications. Patterns of lexical, graphic, and pragmatic variation are investigated, as well as processes of standardization and variation reduction. Multilevel modelling allows for the identification of individual and contextual influences on the use of toponyms. The results indicate a general preference for standardized forms, though vernacular forms persist alongside them. Digital platforms play an essential role in the selection and ranking of toponymic forms, favouring institutional names and contributing to linguistic standardization. At the same time, these processes generate tensions between everyday usage and algorithmically imposed norms. In conclusion, this paper highlights the role of digital platforms as active agents of linguistic standardization, emphasizing the need for a critical understanding of how they reconfigure toponymic practices and the relationship between language and space.

The study presents a critical interpretation of the ethical imagination affirmed by Gustave Flaubert and Michel Houellebecq. Houellebecq’s heroes move in a twilight world where all moral conflicts, all the anarchy of norms and all the energy of crisis accumulated in the two centuries of modernity explode paroxysmically. Bruno, the transformed copy of Bouvard, is a prisoner in the labyrinth of hedonistic consumerism and ends up in madness. Through his eyes, postmodern humanity appears deformed and naive, a schizoid victim of its own inability to ensure the flow of correspondences between mind and reality. Hedonistic ethics leads Bruno towards a universe that is equally anarchic and apocalyptic. Michel, the possible copy of Pécuchet, marks the maximum distance of the (post)modern’s alienation from itself, from its own human origin and from a moral ideal. The scientist Michel invents the method of replacing the human species – perpetually unhappy and bankrupt in its counterproductive ethical mediocrity – with a new species of self-sufficient robotic beings, perfectly reproducible by cloning the “particular elements” of the human genome… The (post)modern world therefore appears in Michel’s eyes as a hideous creature whose irreversible autism leads it towards programmed self-annihilation. The anti-utopia projected by Houellebecq, especially in Michel’s story, is falsely legitimized by Kantian ethics, betrayed, however, and manipulated by an anti- human mind. But Michel’s ethical absolute is the absolute of matter, which acts implacably against the human being. The bankruptcy of humanist-rationalist ethics and of scientistic ethics is for postmodernists like Houellebecq a reality that will hasten the catastrophe and not the ethical alternative.

This article explores the emotional dimension of Ahmadou Kourouma’s novels, based on the hypothesis that this author’s subversion of the French language is not confined to the syntactic and lexical levels, but also involves, in a profound way, a reconfiguration of emotions. Although previous research has largely focused on the ‘Malinkisation’ of French, on orality and on the socio-political significance of his novels, the emotional structure of his writing has yet to be systematically studied. To address this gap, we adopt a mixed methodology combining corpus linguistics, lexicometry and literary analysis. The selected corpus consists of five novels by Ahmadou Kourouma: Les Soleils des indépendances, Monnè, outrages et défis, En attendant le vote des bêtes sauvages, Allah n’est pas obligé and Quand on refuse on dit non. To ensure uniform processing, these texts were prepared as plain text files. They were then analysed using the Tropes software and the EMOTAIX scenario, which automatically identifies lexical units associated with emotions, whether expressed literally or figuratively. The results obtained were consolidated into a single table and then processed in Excel using pivot tables, relative frequencies, over-representation ratios and measures of dispersion, notably the standard deviation. This approach not only makes it possible to measure the prevalence of negative and positive valences, but also to identify significant lexical absences and to identify the emotional signatures specific to each novel. The study demonstrates that Kourouma’s writing is characterised by a high degree of emotional intensity, in which suffering, violence, rage and disillusionment predominate, while varying according to the narrative context. It also reveals the importance of figurative language, which reflects the way in which the author transforms the French language to express the postcolonial experience as accurately as possible. Finally, this approach allows us to objectify reading intuitions and to show that Kourouma’s work constitutes a genuine politics of emotion, in which the reinvention of language involves a profound transformation of its affective economy.

The study presents an analysis of the evocation of the life and activity of Vladimir de Repta, upon his death. The most significant articles in the press published in Cernăuţi, Iaşi and Bucharest, in April-May 1926, are identified. The press from April-May 1926, published in Bucharest, Iaşi and Cernăuţi, gives the death of Vladimir de Repta the dimension of a major event, of national importance, which is also proven by the national funerals with which he was buried. It is the sensitive moment of the evocation of the life of Vladimir de Repta, of his ascension to the metropolitan throne. Historians, professors, politicians, theologians, journalists problematize the way in which Metropolitan Vladimir administered the problems of the Orthodox Church in Bukovina and its relations with the Habsburg Monarchy. They admire or critically evaluate the solutions, reactions and responses that the Metropolitan gave to the repeated attempts of the Ruthenian Orthodox to take over the leadership of the Orthodox Church in Bukovina, between 1902-1914. They talk less, but they mention the Metropolitan’s ties with the Jewish community in Chernivtsi, which he directly protected during the war. Most authors highlight the fact that Metropolitan Vladimir managed to smooth out the conflicts and pacify, in religious and internet terms, the world of Chernivtsi and the Bukovina space at the beginning of the 20th century, affirming an exemplary religious, but also socio-political attitude.

This research, which draws on both the theory of uses and gratifications and the theoretical model of the attention economy, aims to understand the production, dissemination, reception and consequences of fake news and deepfakes on the Ivorian population. With the emergence of digital platforms, disinformation has grown in scale in Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in the context of the struggle for and re-conquest of political power. The country is typically prone to the spread of rumours of all kinds (political, sporting, socio-cultural, etc.). However, as presidential, legislative and municipal elections approach, we are observing an intensive production and massive circulation of fake news and deepfakes in the Ivorian cyberspace. Furthermore, election periods are strongly characterised by an information war, involving the positioning and repositioning of certain political actors and parties, as well as the occupation of the digital public sphere; this, moreover, undermines the climate of peace, social cohesion and stability to which this country so aspires. Using a qualitative approach, this study analyses a corpus comprising videos, texts and user comments collected from digital platforms (Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, etc.) and online news sites. The results show that the Ivorian cyberspace is fertile ground for the spread of fake news, particularly in the context of elections characterised by strategies aimed at positioning and repositioning political opponents. This false information is very often produced under fake profiles, most of which belong to political cyberactivists, or attributed to well-established media outlets. This inevitably affects citizens in their consumption of information, as they are unable to distinguish fact from fiction, particularly in the age of artificial intelligence.

This study examines the devastating earthquake that struck the El Haouz region in Morocco on September 8, 2023, considering it as a case study for analysing crisis management and communication in the digital era. It specifically explores the hypothesis that a relationship exists between the country of origin of international news channels and the nature of their media coverage. The study seeks to determine whether certain media outlets conveyed a critical discourse regarding Moroccan response efforts, potentially influenced by existing political and historical contexts. To test this hypothesis, the methodology combines discourse analysis conducted through a natural language processing algorithm (GPT-4 Turbo) with a predictive model based on Markov chains and neural networks, using a corpus of media content collected from more than 25 countries. This study contributes to the development of a tool capable of highlighting the issue of adaptive anticipation arising from various events that shape the relationship between two communicating systems or actors. In this case, one of the actors is Morocco as a nation-state, while the other is represented by media organizations from different geographical regions that covered the earthquake. Our analysis integrates both qualitative and quantitative data to identify potential correlations between the media treatment of the earthquake by outlets from each country or geographical area and Morocco’s political relations with the country of origin of the respective media organizations. This approach makes it possible to establish the foundations of a decision-support tool capable of simulating international media reactions toward a given actor in light of the historical parameters and prior interactions existing between the two actors under consideration.

Deepfakes, produced through artificial intelligence, are becoming tactical and strategic instruments in military communication. By falsifying the voice, image or identity of political leaders, commanders or soldiers, they extend older practices of deception, from Sun Tzu and Clausewitz to the Russian doctrine of maskirovka. Unlike ordinary fake news, deepfakes rely on audio-visual embodiment. Their persuasive force comes from the apparent presence of an authoritative speaker. They therefore combine disinformation, credibility, plausibility and speed. In the military field, this speed is decisive: a false message that may be debunked in hours in political life can cause immediate operational damage during combat. The text identifies several military uses: disrupting enemy command, weakening morale, misleading the adversary about operational intentions, discrediting official orders, provoking escalation through false-flag narratives, and influencing civilian support for war. Deepfakes also raise new problems in machine-to-machine communication, especially identification systems, drone control and signal spoofing. Recent conflicts provide several examples: the fake video of President Zelensky calling for surrender in March 2022, Russian disinformation after the Crocus City Hall attack, Iranian fake television broadcasts in the Gulf, the Russian Doppelgänger operation, forged statements by American officials, and fabricated videos involving Putin or the Philippines. These cases show that deepfakes function as psychological operations within broader information warfare. The central issue is no longer only technical detection, since AI makes falsification increasingly difficult to identify. The decisive question becomes plausibility: how quickly military actors can assess whether a message fits the operational context, the source, and previous discourse. Deepfakes create a new cognitive fog of war. Drones may reduce visual uncertainty on the battlefield, but manipulated narratives increase cognitive uncertainty. In the OODA loop, the “Orient” phase becomes more fragile. Deepfakes therefore belong to cognitive warfare: they seek to disturb perception, trust, decision-making and command cohesion.

In the era of the so-called third globalization, dominated by information and communication, exchanges are increasingly hampered by an overabundance of information that paradoxically weakens communication itself. This phenomenon, designated by a rich and evolving terminology (information overload, infobésité, information fatigue, misinformation, disinformation, infox), unfolds within a post-truth context where facts often yield to beliefs and emotions and where the very foundations of democratic debate appear destabilized. This article examines the challenges of external corporate communication in such an environment and the strategies through which an economic actor can build, promote, and protect its reputation. The study proceeds in three stages. First, it analyzes the terminology of information and disinformation, drawing on the work of the Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France and the French equivalents it proposes for foreign and technical terms. Second, it retraces the evolution of corporate communication strategies, from the conditioning and repetition models of twentieth-century propaganda to persuasive, relational, and influencer-based approaches, illustrated through emblematic cases such as Dieselgate (malinformation), the tobacco industry (disinformation), and the spectacularization practiced by major brands. Finally, the article argues that narrative (storytelling), when properly structured and ethically grounded, offers a viable alternative for conveying credible and memorable messages. Through the interplay of pathos, ethos, and logos, narrative acts as a strategic discursive device that generates meaning and shapes the way reality is perceived. Drawing on Maingueneau’s socio-discursive approach, the analysis shows how storytelling can function as an epistemic filter capable of restoring trust, while warning against its manipulative drift (greenwashing, socialwashing, pinkwashing).

We are dealing with emotional manipulation through new communication technologies and a ‘triumph’ of digital data; this means that fake news and deepfakes are becoming accepted as truth. In this article, we will explore several theoretical notions such as: misinformation, disinformation, fake news, emotional manipulation, the recipient as a commodity, technological servitude, critical thinking, conspiracy theories, information literacy, as well as other concepts related to humanity’s near-total submission to the major social media corporations. Manipulation and informational and communicational influence are so pervasive that human beings are drowning in waves of servility, in the ‘apotheosis’ of digital data that multiplies with the proliferation of websites and communication platforms, constantly fed by an infinite stream of information and signs. The “remedy” for combating the information war: deliberate and intentional lies, malice and the act of hurting others, will not be the restriction of expression freed from all ethical considerations, but the effective promotion of the principle of Information Literacy, in order to free society from the commodification of human beings, rehumanize society and protect critical thinking, judgement, doubt, skepticism and mistrust. Spontaneously or naturally, but also intentionally. We have become data producers as a result of the extensive adoption of digital technology in our daily lives. Nevertheless, communication remains a fundamental anthropological experience.

Mass media systems in democratic societies contribute to a “persuasion regime” (Breton 2006: 53), whose methods of influence rely on beliefs around heritage assets portrayed as fundamental to a French socio-cultural identity. By exploring the concepts of storytelling and media world-building, in line with the works of Stuart Hall, André Gunthert and Éric Maigret, this study seeks to demonstrate how front-page content manipulates the semantics of heritage images and perpetuates beliefs about truth (Charaudeau 2020), thereby blurring the line between political demands, social imaginaries and cultural literacy. Using examples from press coverage of the yellow vests protests and the toppling of statues in 2019-2020 (Marianne, Le Point, Valeurs Actuelles), we examine the creation of media iconograms of democratic crises (Citron, 1987) through the use of classical works of art in the media coverage of social protests. The analysis relies on a sociological, anthropological and art-historical approach (Maigret, 2003; Martin, 2010; Meunier, 2015) to highlight the manipulation of visual semantics in the context of tensions and power grabs (Gunthert, 2018). We will examine how the dominant discourses are shifting, revealing a certain instability (Moualek, 2022, 139–156), particularly when there is a shift from positively portraying a movement to casting it in a negative light, with the aim of regaining media control to steer the narrative of current affairs (Garcin-Marrou, 2007). These information and communication processes are based on generating meaning, narrative, and spectacle (Baetens, 2007), revealing multimedia issues relating to identity, memory, and heritage. The complexity involved in their production, transformation and reception reflects the casual adoption of contemporary practices that is a hallmark of our image-driven society (Jeanneret, 2008). These iconograms combine narrative systems of informational, symbolic and analogical units, making them complex media devices and revealing the power dynamics at work in media phenomena (Passeron, 1981).

This article examines the complex dynamics of media reception and civic participation within the contemporary post-truth regime, drawing on an empirical study conducted in Morocco. Over the past fifteen years, the media landscape has been transformed by accelerated digitalization and algorithmic recommendation systems. Objective facts increasingly lose their centrality to emotional appeals and persuasive narratives. Consequently, media reception has shifted from passive decoding to a complex negotiation of meaning, where truth is evaluated through affective lenses rather than strictly rational verification. To understand these structural shifts, this research employs a mixed-methods approach focusing on young, connected urban populations, combining thirty qualitative interviews and a quantitative survey of four hundred respondents. The findings reveal a nuanced climate of media distrust: 64% of respondents express low trust in traditional media, and 52% demonstrate skepticism toward social media. Rather than rejecting information entirely, audiences adopt pragmatic strategies, frequently utilizing social networks for immediate news access (71%) and traditional media for verification (58%). The study highlights the central role of emotions in shaping civic engagement. While 69% of participants are drawn to emotionally charged content—which strongly correlates with increased online engagement—this participation remains predominantly expressive and ephemeral. Only 15% reported that emotional online mobilization translated into durable offline civic action. Repeated exposure to emotionally saturating narratives frequently induces information fatigue, cynicism, and withdrawal from the public sphere. Ultimately, the study argues that media credibility is no longer an institutional given but a situational and fragile construct. By documenting these dynamics in a Global South context, this research enriches international debates on the post-truth era, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced media literacy to foster critical and sustainable civic participation in a fragmented digital public sphere.

This article presents an inaugural lecture from the 27th “Franco-Romanian Colloquium on Information and Communication Sciences: Mediatic Narratives in Regimes of Truth and Post-Truth.” As both a researcher and a specialist in media studies, the author draws upon personal experience within his past professional activities to explore the relationships between French citizens of North African origin and the conflicts in the Middle East, viewed through paradoxical dynamics of proximity and distance, as well as identification. The objective is to examine these paradoxes and to highlight how they may illustrate certain tensions that run through post-truth regimes. When rational and cognitive detachment is set against an appreciation of complexity—which then enables communication to rebuild connections—even though, within the context, it can itself be a source of the breakdown of those connections when the public’s initial responses are driven primarily by emotion and identification. It is indeed undoubtedly very delicate for the media and journalism, caught up in immediacy and fierce competition, to have to account for this complexity by bearing witness and explaining, whilst drawing on history, memory, the intertwining of facts and feelings, and the shared responsibility of the parties involved within the same context.

This article offers a comparative analysis of contemporary shifts in the aesthetic experience and the institutional mechanisms that legitimise contemporary art. By combining a phenomenological approach to perception (Celibidache, Benjamin, Merleau-Ponty) with a socio-institutional analysis of the role of museums, it demonstrates that aesthetic truth is not an immanent quality of the work, but rather the product of technical, media and institutional mechanisms. The rise of digital technologies, immersive environments and extrinsic techniques is profoundly altering the regimes of perception, mediation and artistic recognition. Whilst reproduction and immersion appear to undermine the aura of the original work, they simultaneously give rise to new forms of embodied and participatory experience. In this context, museums play a central role in the construction of aesthetic truth, whilst simultaneously fostering regimes of post-truth fueled by the emotional contestation of artists and audiences excluded from the circuits of legitimation. The technological transformation of the aesthetic experience and the growing centrality of museum institutions are giving rise to a two-pronged trend: on the one hand, an intensification of the mediation and spectacularisation of art; on the other, the emergence of emotional challenges that undermine trust in the institutions that confer legitimacy. The article highlights a shift in aesthetic criteria, where extrinsic techniques tend to supplant intrinsic ones, and examines the effects of this transformation on the production, reception and criticism of contemporary art. The crucial issue, therefore, is no longer to settle the question of the value of contemporary art, but to shed light on the social, technical and institutional conditions under which it is recognised.

Are academic and media discourses on conspiracy theories grounded in scientific inquiry or in rhetorical disqualification? This article critically examines Gérald Bronner’s cognitivist approach to conspiracy theories by testing its epistemological assumptions and argumentative coherence. Bronner interprets conspiracy theories as irrational collective beliefs rooted in desires for omniscience and omnipotence. Against this view, the article argues that conspiracy thinking should not primarily be understood as an expression of credulity but rather as a symptom of generalized distrust toward political, media and scientific authorities. Conspiracy theories emerge less from an excess of belief than from a crisis of belief, fostered by historical experiences of deception, the growing opacity of social systems, and the increasing dependence of ordinary citizens on expert knowledge they cannot directly verify. The article further challenges the idea that conspiracy theories reflect fantasies of absolute knowledge and power. Instead, it suggests that they express a feeling of political and cognitive powerlessness within societies increasingly shaped by technoscientific and economic mechanisms that escape democratic control. Conspiracy narratives thus appear as inadequate attempts to restore intelligibility and agency in a world perceived as opaque and uncontrollable. More broadly, the study questions the role played by contemporary anti- conspiracist discourse. It argues that certain academic and media approaches to conspiracy theories may function less as scientific explanations than as instruments of intellectual normalization. In a context marked by post-truth, the denunciation of conspiracy theories risks becoming a means of policing heterodox opinions and narrowing the boundaries of legitimate public debate, thereby reproducing some of the very dynamics it claims to oppose.

Western democracies are today politically polarised to the extent that the notion of “post- truth” has emerged in the public sphere. Truth does not longer seem to be the ultimate goal to be achieved but is relegated to a malleable tool serving interests of all kinds, whether they relate to public opinion, ideology, emotion, belief or the economy. However, we believe that “post-truth” also stems from the construction of media communication within echo chambers, a model that academic literature closely associates with conspiracy theories. In this article, we will attempt to demonstrate that audiovisual media communication in France is, too, shaped by dynamics of information closure and the reinforcement of certain narratives, with the result of polarising public opinion and making the exchange of ideas difficult. We believe that cybernetics is the logic that fosters communication within echo chambers, both in conspiracy-theory discourse on the internet and in audiovisual media in France. The aim of this paper is to problematise the concept of “echo chambers” by demonstrating that it does not apply solely to conspiracy- theory-driven communication on the internet. By extension, we will also attempt to problematise the concept of “post- truth” by demonstrating that it does not stem solely from deliberate lies, but that the emergence of such a discourse is facilitated by a cybernetic architecture of information circulation. Drawing on an international and multidisciplinary body of literature we examine the concept of “echo chambers” by comparing the communication strategies of the French audiovisual sector with those of conspiracy theorists. Our findings, show that the French broadcast media tend to communicate in much the same way as online conspiracy theories, that is to say, within echo chambers, and that this organisation of communication is a symptom of cybernetic thinking.

When the rule of law came under pressure at the borders of the European Union following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, a unification of discourse seems to emerge around a common enemy. This seems to open a chapter in the European narrative that was thought to be closed. It now carries a heavy responsibility, that of leading Europeans to become aware of who they are. The European narrative is a quest for identity particularly marked by the reintegration of Central European countries. The tragic legacy they share with Ukraine reinforces their role in this narrative more than ever. For them, it is important to defend European identity, even though it seems to revolve more around a political culture than a strong common culture. The unclear definition of the cultural dimension of identity in the treaties or by European actors themselves is largely misguided. Paradoxically, the European identity so necessary to face the Ukrainian crisis may itself be in crisis. This article proposes to consider the Ukrainian crisis as an event integrated in the unity of the European narrative. It is important to note that the use of the word « crisis » appears to play a central role in the European Union’s rhetoric in fostering the emergence of collective convictions. However, tensions are emerging between European Member States particularly from Hungary. This article examines how the European narrative is a source of truth. Beyond the discourse of the European institutions, the question remains open as to what extent public communication in Central European countries is oriented towards unifying narrative in the face of a common enemy, against the backdrop of the « crisis » in Ukraine?
